Meaning First Bible · Joshua · chapter 15 of 24

Now the allotment for the clans of the tribe of Praised extended to the border of Red, to the Wilderness of Crag at the extreme southern boundary:

Their southern border started at the bay on the southern tip of the Salt Sea,

proceeded south of the Ascent of Ascent-of-Scorpions, continued on to Crag, went over to the south of Devoted-Place-of-Wandering, ran past Courtyard up to Noble, and curved toward Karka.

It proceeded to Stronghold, joined the Brook of Two-Straits, and ended at the Sea. This was their southern border.

The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Descender. The northern border started from the bay of the Sea at the mouth of the Descender,

went up to House-of-the-Partridge, proceeded north of House-of-the-Arabah, and went up to the Stone of Thumb son of See-a-Son.

Then the border went up to Oracle-Place from the Valley of Trouble, turning north to The-Rolling, which faces the Ascent of Red-Things south of the ravine. It continued along the waters of Spring-of-Sun and came out at Spring-of-the-Fuller.

From there the border went up the Valley of Son-of-Hinnom along the southern slope of the Trodden-Ones (that is, Foundation-of-Peace) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.

From the hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Opening, proceeded to the cities of Mount Fawn-like, and then bent around toward Mistress (that is, City-of-Forests).

The border curled westward from Mistress to Mount Hairy, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Fertile), went down to House-of-Sun, and crossed to Allotted-Portion.

Then it went out to the northern slope of Uprooting, curved toward Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Mistress, went on to God-Builds, and ended at the Sea.

And the western border was the coastline of the Great Sea. These are the boundaries around the clans of the descendants of Praised.

According to He-Who-Is’s command to him, He-Who-Is-Saves gave Dog son of He-Will-Be-Prepared a portion among the sons of Praised—Kiriath-arba, that is, Association. (Arba was the forefather of Long-Necked.)

And Dog drove out from there the three sons of Long-Necked—the descendants of Sheshai, My-Brother-Is-a-Gift, and Furrowed, the children of Long-Necked.

From there he marched against the inhabitants of Oracle-Place (formerly known as City-of-the-Book).

And Dog said, “To the man who strikes down City-of-the-Book and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”

So Lion-of-God son of Dog’s brother Hunter captured the city, and Dog gave his daughter Anklet to him in marriage.

One day Acsah came to Lion-of-God and urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Dog asked her, “What do you desire?”

“Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me land in South-Country, give me springs of water as well.” So Dog gave her both the upper and lower springs.

This is the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Praised.
