Jeremiah 40
Open in the reader1This is the word that came to He-Who-Is-Will-Rise from He-Who-Is after Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had released him at The-Height, having found him bound in chains among all the captives of Foundation-of-Peace and Praised who were being exiled to Confusion.
The captain of the guard found He-Who-Is-Will-Rise and said to him, “He-Who-Is your God decreed this disaster on this place,
and now He-Who-Is has fulfilled it; He has done just as He said. Because you people have sinned against He-Who-Is and have not obeyed His voice, this thing has happened to you.
But now, behold, I am freeing you today from the chains that were on your wrists. If it pleases you to come with me to Confusion, then come, and I will take care of you. But if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Confusion, go no farther. Look, the whole land is before you. Wherever it seems good and right to you, go there.”
But before He-Who-Is-Will-Rise turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen, the son of Rock-Badger, whom the king of Confusion has appointed over the cities of Praised, and stay with him among the people, or go anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a ration and a gift and released him.
So He-Who-Is-Will-Rise went to He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen at Watchtower and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Confusion had appointed He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Confusion,
they came to He-Who-Is-Great at Watchtower—Ishmael son of He-Who-Is-Gives, He-Who-Is-Has-Been-Gracious and He-Who-Is-Has-Given the sons of Shaven, He-Who-Is-Has-Prevailed son of Comfort, the sons of Ephai the Of-Dropping-Place, and He-Who-Is-Listens son of the Pressed-Down—they and their men.
He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen, the son of Rock-Badger, swore an oath to them and their men, assuring them, “Do not be afraid to serve the Kasdites. Live in the land and serve the king of Confusion, and it will go well with you.
As for me, I will stay in Watchtower to represent you before the Kasdites who come to us. As for you, gather wine grapes, summer fruit, and oil, place them in your storage jars, and live in the cities you have taken.”
When all the Praised-Ones in From-the-Father, Kindred, Red, and all the other lands heard that the king of Confusion had left a remnant in Praised and had appointed He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen, the son of Rock-Badger, over them,
they all returned from all the places to which they had been banished and came to the land of Praised, to He-Who-Is-Great at Watchtower. And they gathered an abundance of wine grapes and summer fruit.
Meanwhile, He-Who-Is-Has-Been-Gracious son of Shaven and all the commanders of the armies in the field came to He-Who-Is-Great at Watchtower
and said to him, “Are you aware that Baalis king of the children of Kindred has sent God-Hears son of He-Who-Is-Gives to take your life?” But He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen did not believe them.
Then He-Who-Is-Has-Been-Gracious son of Shaven spoke privately to He-Who-Is-Great at Watchtower. “Let me go and kill God-Hears son of He-Who-Is-Gives,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and scatter all the people of Praised who have gathered to you, so that the remnant of Praised would perish?”
But He-Who-Is-Great son of My-Brother-Has-Risen said to He-Who-Is-Has-Been-Gracious son of Shaven, “Do not do such a thing! What you are saying about God-Hears is a lie.”
