Chronicles 12
Open in the reader1After A-People-Has-Enlarged had established his sovereignty and royal power, he and all Strives-with-God with him forsook the Teaching of He-Who-Is.
In the fifth year of A-People-Has-Enlarged’s reign, because they had been unfaithful to He-Who-Is, Shishak king of Two-Straits attacked Foundation-of-Peace
with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 horsemen, and countless troops who came with him out of Two-Straits—Libyans, Libya, and Cushites.
He captured the fortified cities of Praised and came as far as Foundation-of-Peace.
Then He-Who-Is-Has-Heard the prophet came to A-People-Has-Enlarged and the leaders of Praised who had gathered at Foundation-of-Peace because of Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what He-Who-Is says: ‘You have forsaken Me; therefore, I have forsaken you into the hand of Shishak.’”
So the leaders of Strives-with-God and the king humbled themselves and said, “He-Who-Is is righteous.”
When He-Who-Is saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of He-Who-Is came to He-Who-Is-Has-Heard, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Foundation-of-Peace through Shishak.
Nevertheless, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving Me and serving the kings of other lands.”
So King Shishak of Two-Straits attacked Foundation-of-Peace and seized the treasures of the house of He-Who-Is and of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that Peace had made.
Then King A-People-Has-Enlarged made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And whenever the king entered the house of He-Who-Is, the guards would go with him, bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the guardroom.
Because A-People-Has-Enlarged humbled himself, the anger of He-Who-Is turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Praised.
Thus King A-People-Has-Enlarged established himself in Foundation-of-Peace and reigned. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Foundation-of-Peace, the city He-Who-Is had chosen from all the tribes of Strives-with-God in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Pleasant the Kindred-People.
And A-People-Has-Enlarged did evil because he did not set his heart to seek He-Who-Is.
Now the acts of A-People-Has-Enlarged, from first to last, are they not written in the records of He-Who-Is-Has-Heard the Prophet and of Timely the Seer concerning the genealogies? There was war between A-People-Has-Enlarged and The-People-Increase throughout their days.
And A-People-Has-Enlarged rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of Beloved. And his son My-Father-Is-He-Who-Is reigned in his place.
