Meaning First Bible · Zechariah · chapter 2 of 14

Then I looked up and saw four horns.

So I asked the messenger who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he told me, “These are the horns that have scattered Praised, Strives-with-God, and Foundation-of-Peace.”

Then He-Who-Is showed me four craftsmen.

“What are these coming to do?” I asked. And He replied, “These are the horns that scattered Praised so that no one could raise his head; but the craftsmen have come to terrify them and throw down these horns of the nations that have lifted up their horns against the land of Praised to scatter it.”

Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.

“Where are you going?” I asked. “To measure Foundation-of-Peace,” he replied, “and to determine its width and length.”

Then the messenger who was speaking with me went forth, and another messenger came forward to meet him

and said to him, “Run and tell that young man: ‘Foundation-of-Peace will be a city without walls because of the multitude of men and livestock within it.

For I will be a wall of fire around it, declares He-Who-Is, and I will be the glory within it.’”

“Get up! Get up! Flee from the land of the north,” declares He-Who-Is, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven,” declares He-Who-Is.

“Get up, O Marker! Escape, you who dwell with the Daughter of Confusion!”

For this is what He-Who-Is of Hosts says: “After His Glory has sent Me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—

I will surely wave My hand over them, so that they will become plunder for their own servants. Then you will know that He-Who-Is of Hosts has sent Me.”

“Shout for joy and be glad, O Daughter of Marker, for I am coming to dwell among you,” declares He-Who-Is.

“On that day many nations will join themselves to He-Who-Is, and they will become My people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that He-Who-Is of Hosts has sent Me to you.

And He-Who-Is will take possession of Praised as His portion in the Devoted Land, and He will once again choose Foundation-of-Peace.

Be silent before He-Who-Is, all people, for He has roused Himself from His devoted dwelling.”
